Check word count

In Word, you can check counts from the status bar at the bottom or by opening Word Count on the Review tab.

Look at the status bar or open Word Count from the Review tab.

Check the status bar
The status bar at the bottom of Word shows the current word count.

Open detailed count
For more detail, click Word Count on the Review tab.

Check a selected range
If you only need part of the document, select that range first and then check the count.

If the status bar option is disabled, the count may not be visible there.
In Japanese documents, word count and character count can mean different things, so check the requested metric.

Find

Ctrl + F

Find text in the document.

Replace

Ctrl + H

Replace found text with another value.

Create a table of contents

Apply heading styles and insert an automatic table of contents.

Insert a page break

Start the next content on a new page.

Edit headers and footers

Edit the repeating information at the top or bottom of the document.

Check the status bar settings or use Word Count on the Review tab.
