Steps

  1. 1

    Enter header/footer editing mode

Use Header or Footer on the Insert tab, or double-click the top or bottom area of the page.

  2. 2

    Add the required content

Type the repeating content such as a document title, date, or page number.

  3. 3

    Set options if needed

If the first page should be different, enable Different First Page.

  4. 4

    Return to the document body

Close header/footer editing or double-click back into the main document.

Common pitfalls

  • If it stays linked to the previous section, a local change may affect more pages than expected.
  • If only the cover page should differ, Different First Page is safer than manually deleting content.

FAQ

Can I hide the header only on the first page?

Yes. In header/footer editing mode, turn on Different First Page.

What if I need different content by section?
