Data Collection

KeyboardGym stores your learning progress locally in your browser using LocalStorage and IndexedDB. We never ask for your name, email address or any other personal information. The only data we send to our servers is your typing result when you take part in the monthly language-based ranking, as described below.

Monthly Typing Ranking

When a typing session meets the entry conditions (a minimum duration, a minimum number of keystrokes and a minimum accuracy), the result is automatically submitted to the monthly ranking for that language. We send:

  • Score, CPM (characters per minute), accuracy, elapsed time, keystrokes and mistakes
  • Practice course, language and device type (desktop or mobile)
  • The date and time of the session
  • An anonymous device identifier

No name, nickname, email address or any other identifying information is sent or displayed. The ranking table shows only rank, score, CPM, accuracy and device type.

The anonymous device identifier is a random string generated inside your browser. We use it only to prevent repeated submissions from the same device and to show you your own position. It is never shown in the ranking table and cannot be used to identify you.

Sessions that do not meet the entry conditions are never sent to our servers.

Submitted results are stored by Upstash, Inc. (Tokyo region) and are deleted automatically after about 45 days. Your IP address is used only to count requests per hour so that we can block abuse; it is never linked to a ranking record.

Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics, which works without cookies, and Google Analytics 4 to understand how the service is used so that we can improve it. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects your browser, device type, approximate region and the pages you visit.

Advertising

We show ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to select and measure ads, including personalised ads. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland these cookies are used only after you agree in the consent message Google shows on this site.

You can turn off personalised ads at any time in Google’s ad settings.

Cookies

We store your language choice in a cookie so the site opens in the same language next time; this cookie is needed for the site to work as you set it up. Analytics and advertising cookies are set by Google as described above. You can delete or block all cookies in your browser settings.

Third-party services

We use the following services, each of which processes data under its own privacy policy:

  • Vercel Analytics (usage measurement, no cookies)
  • Google Analytics 4 (usage measurement)
  • Google AdSense (advertising)
  • Upstash, Inc. (storage of typing ranking records, Tokyo region)

Google Signals

Google Signals is enabled in Google Analytics. For visitors who are signed in to a Google account and have ad personalisation switched on, their activity here may be linked with data Google already holds, and used for cross-device analysis and remarketing. You can review and delete that data at myactivity.google.com and opt out at adssettings.google.com.

Your Rights

Data kept in your browser is fully under your control and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings. Clearing it also discards your anonymous device identifier, after which you are treated as a new device. Please note that results already submitted to the ranking contain no identifying information, so we cannot locate and delete an individual entry; those records are removed automatically when the retention period ends.
