Why You Cannot Park Straight (or Centered) — and How to Fix It

The car ends up crooked

You are straightening the wheel too early or too late. The basic rule: the moment the car is parallel with the space, straighten. Keep reversing while crooked and you finish crooked — pull forward once, rebuild the parallel, and it fixes itself.

The car hugs one side

Nudge the car slightly toward the opposite side, then back straight in again — that recenters it. Compare the gaps to the lines in both mirrors and drift toward the wider side. Do not force it while offset; pulling forward and redoing is the reliable fix.

Never centered in the space

Usually the entry angle was off from the start. Check that the car points straight into the space at the entrance before reversing. With a clean entry angle, backing straight in lands you centered.

The rear swings wide on the way in

Turning the wheel too early rotates the car before the rear wheels reach the space, swinging you wide. Start turning once your rear wheels are level with the entrance and the swing stays contained.
