Ctrl+Click adds a shape to the selection; click again to remove it. On Mac, use ⌘+Click or Shift+Click.

On Mac, use ⌘ (Command) instead of Ctrl. Use ⌘+Option+G for grouping and Option+Drag to duplicate while dragging.
