Use Find and Replace (Ctrl+H) to Fix Text Across All Slides at Once

Effective in this scenario

A 20-slide proposal had the client's company name written incorrectly throughout. Manually searching through every slide and fixing each one took 15 minutes. This is the quintessential 'if only I'd known this earlier, it would have taken one minute' scenario.

Ctrl+H lets you bulk-replace text. Fixing text across a large deck shrinks from minutes to seconds. It uses the same shortcut as Excel, so it's easy to remember.

The limits of visual search and the value of bulk replace

Scanning slides one by one to find text visually is error-prone and gives you no way to confirm when you're done. With 20 corrections needed, you might only fix 18 and not realize it before submitting.

Find and Replace with 'Replace All' processes every instance and shows 'X changes were made,' giving you confirmation that nothing was missed.

How to use Find and Replace

Open the dialog with Ctrl+H, enter the old and new text, and click 'Replace All.'

1
Ctrl+H

Open the Find and Replace dialog

Ctrl+F opens Find only. If you also need to replace, start with Ctrl+H. If you opened Ctrl+F, you can switch to the Replace tab.

2
Enter the search string

Type the text to be replaced

Enter the exact text, such as 'Acme Corp.' You can control case sensitivity with the 'Match case' checkbox.

3
Enter the replacement string

Type the correct replacement text

Enter the new correct text. To delete the text, leave the replacement field blank.

4
Click 'Replace All'

Apply changes across all slides

After processing, the number of changes is shown. If it says 0, the search string was not found — check your spelling.

Tip: You can undo the replacement with Ctrl+Z. If the result wasn't what you intended, reverse it immediately.
